About
Hello!
I’m Sofia.
Teacher. Storyteller. Literacy Builder.
For 25 years, I home educated my daughters preparing them for tertiary education. I am a trained early childhood teacher and VET Hospitality teacher. That mix gave me a front-row seat to how differently kids learn depending on their age, interests, and stage of life, and how much a child’s confidence in reading and writing shapes everything else they do.
That’s why I started Forge Literacy. I work with two groups: young readers and writers building their foundation, and older students who’ve fallen behind and need a way back in that doesn’t feel babied. Every student works toward something real - a storybook, a podcast script, a resume, a comparison of things they actually care about. No worksheets for their own sake. Just work that’s theirs.
I believe strong foundations build limitless futures. Real-life projects. Real-life outcomes.
I hold a current Working With Children Check, I’m NESA accredited and I’m based in Newcastle.
My qualifications are in education, professional writing and publishing, phonics and TESOL.
I have written and published a number of resource books for developing countries, children’s picture books and two cookbooks. I am currently writing a book about building strong communities.
We were made to thrive.
